Chihuahua: The Land of Ancient Wonders

From the archives of photographer Bill Williams
Opening September 15, 2010 - University of Texas at El Paso
Based upon a photographic essay for the former governor of Chichuahua, Mexico, Mr. Patrico Martinez, Chihuahua: The Land of Ancient Wonders highlights the unique beauty and rich history of Mexico’s largest state. The state is perhaps best known for its popular train ride over the Chihuahua Pacific railroad which travels through the western mountains, canyons and the unrivaled Tarahumara Indian culture. Chihuahua hosts a myriad of hidden treasures--cathedrals, missions, historic haciendas, the Mennonites, lakes, rivers, desert, and fascinating ruins of the vanished Paquime Indian culture which was part of the Anasazi culture of Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico.
Chichuahua history is linked with that of Poncho Villa, that peerless guerrilla fighter who brought the state to center stage during the Revolution of 1910. Chihuahua: The Land of Ancient Wonders was organized to educate and stimulate an appreciation for Chihuahua’s rich history and modern reality.
Bill Williams has been a professional photographer and painter for 45 years. Williams photographs images with a conscious regard for the principles of design and fells a sense of duty to portray a positive statement in a traditional style.
He served 24 years at the University of Oklahoma
as the art director for the publications office and as
an award-winning graphic designer, photographer and
illustrator, where he produced a myriad of publications
that made an impact through visual design.
