“Empty Nest”
The bed, in which John and Yoko spent eight days and from which they received and entertained celebrities, politicians and the news media, makes an eloquent statement even in those rare moments when it was unoccupied. It was always surrounded by flowers. The quilt on the bed, a gift from the Hare Krishnas, is now part of the collections of National Museums Liverpool.
Patching Up The World With a Peace Quilt--
Artvision Exhibitions Calls For Squares
To Add To Give Peace A Chance Traveling Exhibition

Boca, Florida February 2, 2009: John Lennon was an artist, as well as a musician.  At the historic Bed-in for Peace in Montreal the walls were festooned with his cartoons.  The message to the world was give peace a chance.  As a work of performance art, it was a collage of actions, art and music. The experiences of the people who visited were like patches in a crazy, colored quilt.

Now, over 40 years later, the traveling photographic exhibition Give Peace A Chance: John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Bed-in for Peace 1969, which has already been viewed by over 100,000 visitors, will include a new public outreach element: an International Peace Quilt.  Artvision Exhibitions, LLC is calling for submissions of squares measuring 18" to be added to the exhibition quilt. Creative advisor to the project is multi-award winning quilter Marilyn Dowart of Delray Beach, Florida. Dowart serves as Financial Vice President on the Houston-based International Quilt Association board and is the author of 4 books on quilting. She is often on the road all over North America as a respected judge of the art.

Artvision President Victoria Rehberg said “Like the Bed-in, this
exhibition is a growing and evolving multi-generational experience
viewed through the lens of photographer Gerry Deiter while on
assignment for Life magazine.  As the exhibition travels, each
museum venue will add their own unique peace square reflecting
their mission and the community they serve. The idea has been
so well received, we have opened up submissions to interested
individuals, non profit organizations and corporations worldwide,
creating an international statement for art and peace.”  She
continued “Quilters are artists - they paint, draw, stitch, depict
history, carry on traditions and make new ones.  Give Peace A
Chance will be a richer experience with the addition of the
International Peace Quilt”.

Each quilter who submits an accepted square will be recognized
on a text panel accompanying the works in the exhibition as well
as the official exhibition web site. For complete details and
submission specifications, visit:
